Home canning or jarring is an excellent way to extend the shelf life of your fish. Your fish can be canned fresh, or it can be frozen and canned as it reaches its expiration date. You can also smoke the fish first and then preserve in jars. Canned salmon is great for making dips, salmon cakes, or adding to your favorite pasta or rice recipes.

Winter’s On Its Way

The birds have flown south and it is snowing all around us in the state, bringing an end to another beautiful, Alaskan summer. It is time to pull the dock and sadly, welcome winter back. Stay tuned for first snowfall.

Delicious Smoked Salmon Dip

Smoked Fish Dip

2-3 Cups Smoked Salmon
(3) 8 oz packages of cream cheese
1 1/2 Cups of Mayo
4-5 Green onions, finely chopped
1 TBSP dill weed

Two cubs and a sow foraged the boats and river bank for fish last night, in front of the lodge. Despite not finding fish, they hung around playing and posed for pictures for the other guests.
